Book synopsis:

Drawing from his own childhood experiences, Jonathan Bean takes the autobiographically inspired family he introduced in Building Our House through the special rhythms and routines of a homeschooling day. For young Jonathan and his sisters, Mom is the teacher and a whole lot more, and Dad is the best substitute any kid could want. From math, science, and field trips to recess, show-and-tell, and art, a school day with this intrepid, inventive family will seem both completely familiar and totally unique. Includes a selection of family snapshots and a note from the author.

Shelly’s Review:

This book is a fresh, honest look at what homeschooling actually looks like. The illustrations are phenomenal in that instead of depicting an immaculate house with a June Cleaver-type mother standing in front of a chalkboard, it is an accurate representation of what most homeschooling households are actually like. Written by a former homeschooler himself, This Is My Home, This Is My School lets the world see the many sides of learning at home, from trips to the creek to unexpected messes to even a mother’s cry for help while on the phone with the “principal” (aka Dad). I highly recommend this book to any family who homeschools or is simply pondering the idea. THIS is what homeschooling is all about.
