Book Summary:

Levi Prince is a 13-year-old homeschooled pastor’s kid who is about to start his summer vacation by going to a classical summer camp on Castle Island in the middle of Lake Superior. Looking forward to some time away from his siblings he also feels nervous with anticipation of the new experiences that await him. What he was going to experience was nothing like he expected. After a storm, he finds himself in Terracaelum, a sanctuary for mythical creatures above Lake Superior. Through the adventures, he makes friends but is challenged to know who to trust and who to be wary of. The events he experiences test his character and faith in God in ways he never thought possible.

Joy’s Review:

This was an action packed book filled with fantastical characters and occurrences. The overall theme is based on 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. This played out in the situations that Levi found himself in while at camp. He discovers that he must depend on God’s strength and guidance to keep him and his friends safe. The author does a good job of portraying the battle between good and evil on a young person’s level.

The Trojan Horse Traitor is the first book in the Levi Prince young adult fantasy novel series written by Amy C. Blake. The author is a pastor’s wife and homeschooling mother of four. She wanted to write books that had homeschooled heroes in them. She wrote about Camp Classic because her own family uses a Classical Christian curriculum and she wanted to integrate that style from Classical mythology into her stories.
